Red Smoke Automotive opened its doors just a few months ago, on an industrial estate in Tinsley in Sheffield.

Its location and accessibility make it ideal for larger vehicles, including vans and motor homes, as well as domestic and fleet cars.

Whether its MOTs, servicing, tyres or repairs, Red Smoke Automotive’s team of professional mechanics can ensure you’re safely back on the road as soon as possible. With a former F1 mechanic in charge you know your vehicle is in safe hands.

But whatever you drive, there’s one thing all customers will have in common – they’ll all receive the same quality customer service you’d expect from a main dealership – with the personal attention, friendliness, and price point you’d get from a local neighbourhood garage.

Who are Red Smoke?

Red Smoke Automotive, which takes its unusual name from a song by the chart topping local band The Reytons is owned by Former F1 mechanic Iain Lound, along side Martin Simpkins, and business partner Tony Reynolds – neither of which are mechanics. Martin and Tony’s prime business is in biofuels – taking used oil from kitchens, restaurants, fish and chip shops and the like and converting it to biofuel suitable for running diesel cars.

Their business Bio UK Fuels was started 14 years ago in Sheffield – and was at the forefront of this resurgence of recycling fuel technology. After relocating to Rotherham, they are now back in their home city on at Unit 6B Greasbro Road, Tinsley, where they manufacture and sell the renewable fuel. Martin takes up the story.

“Industrial premises are in short supply, the only suitable unit was bigger than we needed,” said Martin. They knew Iain Lound, who has worked as a mechanic on the F1 circuit, was looking to set up his own garage so it seemed a perfect opportunity to open one at the unit, choosing to work with him as he is a “really talented mechanic”.

The unit is based in an industrial estate, giving easy access, especially for larger vehicles.

Setting up from scratch means they have been able to invest in state of the art equipment for the garage, and the spacious unit means there has been room to set up larger equipment suitable for vans and motorhomes and still have space for a comfortable waiting area for customers, who can enjoy complimentary refreshments while they wait for their vehicles to be MOT’d or worked on if they wish.

Friendly and professional

Although it only opened officially just before Christmas last year, Red Smoke Automotive has already attracted a loyal customer base of car owners, motorhome users and businesses – including various car sales companies and a van hire firm, who use it for fleet servicing and repairs. With good access and plenty of parking space it takes the stress out of trying to park a big van – or a family car – into a tiny parking area in a back street.

“We want all of our customers to feel welcome, and get a good quality service,” said Iain. “There is nothing worse than coming to a garage and there being nobody to greet you. We offer dealership-level customer service whilst being a local friendly garage. Our waiting room has been done out and we offer free tea and coffee for anyone waiting for the work to be done.

“Our booking service is fully automated and we can send out text message reminders for MOTs and servicing and the like – a service usually only offered by the major dealerships.”
