A spokesman for the airport said: “Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) welcomes yesterday’s announcement from the UK Government to open up international travel once more with the addition of the Balearics to its somewhat cautious Green watch list with effect from 04.00 hrs on 30th June.

“The updated Green list includes popular DSA destinations; Majorca, Ibiza, Menorca.

The spokesman added: “Whilst it is a positive step forward in what has been a difficult 15-months for the travel and aviation industry, it is a long way from the clarity needed to give holiday makers full confidence in international travel and get them back in the air for a well-deserved break in the sun.

“DSA is looking forward to further announcements to understand what the impact will be if the Government takes the decision to relax quarantine rules for passengers who have received both COVID vaccinations.

“Safety is and always will be of paramount importance at Doncaster Sheffield Airport and stringent procedures are in place to protect our passengers, operators and our colleagues.

"However, we need clarity from Government about travel restrictions, a robust border procedure and affordable testing to begin a meaningful return to international travel.”

The UK travel list was updated yesterday (June 24) after another three-week review, meaning destinations have moved between the Green, Amber and Red list depending on their Covid-19 public health risk.

Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps, said: "We're moving forward with efforts to safely reopen international travel this summer, and thanks to the success of our vaccination programme, we're now able to consider removing the quarantine period for fully-vaccinated UK arrivals from amber countries - showing a real sign of progress."

All additions to the green list apart from Malta will join a ‘green watchlist’, as will Israel and Jerusalem - signalling that these countries are at risk of moving from green to amber.

Many ‘green list’ countries will continue to place restrictions on UK travellers, including quarantine measures, so passengers are encouraged to check all requirements and FCDO travel advice before they book any foreign travel.
