The company made the announcement this afternoon – days after Environment Secretary George Eustice said the firm’s drive-thrus were ‘made’ for social distancing.

It has not yet been confirmed which drive-thrus will be reopening.

A McDonald’s spokesperson said: “Next week we will begin the next phase of reopening a further 30 pilot restaurants in the UK and Ireland, offering service through the drive-thru lane from May 20.

“We plan to reopen all our drive-thrus by early June.”

The company is also bringing in a £25 order cap.

“We will have a £25 order cap as we adjust to smaller teams and social distancing in our kitchens,” the spokesperson explained.

The news comes as McDonald's – which closed all all its UK outlets on March 23 amid the lockdown – prepares to open 15 English restaurants for delivery tomorrow.
