Paperchase, which sells stationery, cards and gifts, has returned on Fargate following the relaxation of lockdown measures covering ‘non-essential’ retailers last month.

The chain began a phased reopening of its branches on June 15 in accordance with government advice – 17 stores were reopened to start with and now a further 49 of its shops, including the Fargate site, have made a comeback.

“To ensure this is maintained at all times, we are implementing the following measures across Paperchase stores: enhanced cleaning and personal hygiene procedures, including hand sanitiser for colleagues and a limit to the number of customers in a store at any one time; social-distancing stewards and signs dedicated to managing queues and ensuring customers can navigate stores safely and effectively; protective screens at till points where it is more difficult to maintain a two-metre distance; PPE for colleagues, as well as social distancing on the shop floor and in back of house; making card payments easier with an increased contactless payment limit of £45.”

The Fargate store’s return is a further boost to the city centre, following the announcement that John Lewis is set to reopen its department store in Barker's Pool on July 29.
