Stores often close, new places are always opening. Nothing ever stands still.
However, that’s not to say sometimes people won’t pine for a special place that’s no longer with us, whether that’s an iconic bar, restaurant, shop, cafe or even a local takeaway.
Many argue that Sheffield’s city centre is not what it once was in decades gone by. So with that in mind, we asked our Sheffield Star readers which places they miss the most - and these were some of the most popular choices.

1. Redgates
Simon Fenton commented: "Redgates hands down!" It was widely considered to be Britain’s best toy store outside of London for a number of years. Here it is pictured in 1988 on it's final day. | Picture Sheffield/Ted Mace

2. Sugg Sports
Sugg Sports shop, at the corner of Pinstone Street and Charles Street, Sheffield city centre, was also a popular choice. | Picture Sheffield/Sheffield Newspapers Ltd

3. Woolworths
Once loved for its pick 'n' mix sweets and bargain prices, Woolworths was another popular choice amongst our readers. | Picture Sheffield/Sheffield Newspapers Ltd

4. Harringtons
Harringtons clothes store, which is rememered for it's crazy bargains was once part of the fabric of Sheffield. | Local Library
