It has never been more important that we all #SupportLocal when we go shopping in Sheffield as it is now

Our city is full of lots of lovely independent shops which make Sheffield unique, but if they are to be there for us to enjoy in the future they need our support.

It’s a very tough time for independent shop owners and they are relying on the custom of local people to help keep their stores open and their dreams alive.

That’s why, we joined JPI Media titles across the country with the launch of our #SupportLocal campaign, which has been kindly sponsored by the Sheffield BID.

Diane Jarvis, Manager of Sheffield BID, said: “It has always been so important for people to shop locally wherever possible. This supports the local economy and the environment.

“Every visit we make to a local business helps support jobs in retail and the supply chain. Money spent locally stays in the local community, and this will be key to the overall recovery from COVID-19.

“As more businesses start to re-emerge from lockdown, they are helping to repair the economic damage caused by the pandemic. It has never been more important for all of us to play our part keeping the city’s retail destinations vibrant.

“Retailers have been working hard to create a safe shopping environment so that customers feel confident to return to their favourite shops. The shopping experience is changing but if we all follow the appropriate social distancing and hygiene measures, and show consideration to those around us, then everyone will benefit.

“Shopping, eating and buying locally will be vital to our recovery, so we urge Sheffield residents to get behind our Support Local campaign and to support local businesses wherever they can.”

The Star's #supportlocal campaign encourages readers to shop at the city's independent businesses.

Please #ShopSheffield and #SupportLocal.
