But two Sheffield businesswomen have come up with an enterprising plan to help, while raising money for the NHS.

Kirsty Thompson, who runs floristry business Sundew, has teamed up with Kate Carnall, who owns Hilda & Dolly crafts and gifts, to deliver ‘Little Hugs’ throughout South Yorkshire.

The ‘Hugs’ proved so popular in the first 24 hours of being launched that orders have been placed on hold so the independent businesses can keep up with demand.

Kirsty, from High Green, said: “It’s just been really nice, the requests are really cute.

“Some of the personalised messages are beautiful, people are really missing each other.”

Kirsty and Kate usually sell products in Eccelsfield shop Polka Dott, which is currently closed, so they decided to do business remotely.

More than 40 orders have been placed so far, with Kirsty hoping to start taking orders again in early May.

“I have put it on hold for now because I haven’t got enough flowers,” she said.

The ‘Little Hugs’ cost £10 each, with £5 of that being donated to NHS charities.

Kirsty added: “We chose the NHS because everyone’s trying to raise money and they need it as well. It’s just nice to give something back, I have a lot of friends on the front line.”
