Here's how you can see your products for sale and art on display at this Sheffield shop

For Michelle Walton, owner of Bird’s Yard, lockdown has given her a chance for her to reflect on her business and channel her artistic ability - and now her store has re-opened she wants to help others make the most of theirs.

Michelle said: “It’s been really nice to open the shop again, I have missed it. I realised just how much joy the shop and my lovely customers bring to my life.

"I have used this time to grow the business online and also taken some time to do some painting myself. Now that we are open again, I’d love to support even more local artists and makers with my shop.”

Bird’s Yard, on Chapel Walk, is an emporium of lots of lovely delights – from mugs and jewellery to cards, candles and chocolate. Everything has been made with love by a designer, many who are local. It’s a fantastic place to pick up a unique present for a friend, or even a special treat for yourself.

Michelle added: "I know people will have been using this time to get crafty and make things themselves and if they have realised now is the time to try and sell their products I’d like to help them.

"I also have regular customers, so I’d like to keep up the momentum of the shop and give them something new and different to come back for.”

Michelle has freshly painted the exterior of the shop and added some new artificial foliage to catch the eye of potential shoppers, but she wants to go further with her new look for the shop – and also wants to support even more local crafters in doing so.

She said: “I want to support as many new artists as possible and want the shop to represent different artists too. I’m in talks with one local lady about doing a design for the floor of the shop, but it might be that I change it and have a waiting list of artists to do something for me, or it might be that someone wants to work on something to put in my window. I’ll pay them for their design, of course. I’m open to suggestions and would just ask artists to get in touch with me.”

Michelle, who has ten years of experience running businesses, is extremely optimistic about the future of her shop and is also determined to do what she can to support her customers to shop comfortably in the current climate. She has measures in place to make her shop Covid secure, and is also willing to open the shop early to any vulnerable customers who would like some time to shop alone. A click and collect service is also available for those who wish to use it after they have bought online at www.birdsyard.co.uk. Delivery is also available.

She added: “I’m really excited to see what happens. I’d love to get lots of new people on board.”

Bird’s Yard is currently open every Wednesday and Saturday. Please visit www.facebook.com/BirdsYardSheffield to keep up-to-date with all the latest information, including any changes to opening times.
