Historic Sheffield jewellery store with famous alarm rebranded after 165 years in business
It was made famous by its daily alarm
A historic jeweller that has been in operation for over a century-and-a-half in Sheffield has been bought by a luxury firm.
H. L. Brown has been a staple of Sheffield city centre for 165 years now, with anyone close to the Pinstone Street shop at 1pm on any day unable to miss it thanks to its daily alarm.

The siren was introduced in 1877 to help Victorian businesses to set their clocks reliably.
However, in June this year, H.L Brown announced that it was being brought under new ownership and after construction work a new-look store has been revealed.
Loupe’s signage has been erected at the Barker’s Pool site, with the company promising a “luxury retail experience focused on fine watches and jewellery.”
Anna Blackburn, managing director of The Beaverbrooks Group, said: “This investment marks an exciting milestone, building on over 107 years of passion, experience and expertise as we open our fourth Loupe boutique and continue the legacy that H. L. Brown started in 1861.
“We look forward to continuing to deliver the best-in-class service the H. L. Brown brand is renowned for whilst staying true to the family values and core purpose of enriching lives that the Beaverbrooks Group has upheld for over a century.”
