Sheffield IKEA store 'temporarily closed' over safety concerns

Store remains closed today

Sheffield’s giant Ikea superstore is closed today, over a ‘safety concern’.

The vast store, near Tinsley, in Sheffield, remains closed today, having shut on Sunday while the problem was investigated.

The crash happened at the junction of Attercliffe Common and Weedon Street in Sheffield just before 9am on September 25, 2024. Judge Dixon described it to the court: "Anyone who knows that area will know that is a busy section of road - and at 9am, even more so."placeholder image

This morning IKEA confirmed that the shop remained closed, and a notice on their website stated: “IKEA Sheffield is currently closed and will reopen as soon as possible.”

The firm told The Star in a statement that the safety of its customers and co-workers was always the highest priority for IKEA.

They added: “We can confirm that all customers and co-workers safely exited our IKEA Sheffield store...to allow us to investigate a safety concern.

“No injuries have been reported. The store remains temporarily closed as we continue our investigations and we look forward to welcoming customers back as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

On Sunday people described getting turned away at the door.
