Signs in place as new Sheffield branch of well-known restaurant chain prepares for grand opening
Fat Hippo due to replace former Creams site in city centre
Signs are now in place ahead of the opening of a Sheffield branch of a well known restaurant chain.
The signs have now been installed over the doors at the Fat Hippo venue which is opening at the site of what had previously been a dessert parlour, called Creams, on the corner of Division Street and Carver Street, in the city centre.

The illuminated sign in white letters, is accompanied by a red illuminated outline of a hippo, and the sign’s arrival comes ahead of the planned opening on Friday (November 6).
Last month, the company announced it would be giving away 10 free meals-for-two on the opening day through 10 ‘golden tickets for a private, pre-opening event this evening.
Fat Hippo is an independent UK burger restaurant group known for its bold flavours and signature “good kind of messy” dining experience.
Its menu features premium beef burgers, buttermilk chicken, plant-based options and loaded sides.
Fat Hippo’s Division Street shop is thought to be the first the company has had in Sheffield, although it has previously had units inside other businesses and food halls.
Fat Hippo announced that it was planning to open up in what had previously been the Creams dessert salon on Division Street back in August 2025.
But workmen only started transforming the site into a Fat Hippo restaurant in September, originally hoping to open in October.
A sign had appeared in the window of the building where the restaurant will be based, announcing it planned to move in, shortly after the closure of Creams last year, but no signs of progress had been visible.
Creams had opened on Division Street -in the old Sakis men’s clothes store - in 2023 but closed after a few months.
Fat Hippo previously had outlets in the Kommune food hall in Castlegate and Lane 7 bowling alley near The Moor.
Launched in 2010 in Newcastle Upon Tyne, today it has 13 restaurants in the UK, in cities including Leeds and York, in Yorkshire.
It also sells merchandise including a bacon scented candle.
