The OId Rectory in Handsworth has been a popular place to tie the knot for many years, but like other wedding venues it was forced to close due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It has now announced that Handsworth Old Rectory Community Centre Limited, the independent charity running it, has been placed into voluntary liquidation.

In a statement, the charity’s trustees, who have instructed BHP Corporate Solutions, said they had taken the ‘difficult decision’ to cease activities with immediate effect following the ‘unprecedented demands’ created by the COVID-19 crisis.

They said St Mary’s Church Handsworth, which owns the Grade II-listed property, believes it can ‘remain a resource to the community’.

“Sadly, despite our very best efforts and in anticipation that government restrictions on social gatherings will continue for the large part of 2020, we have taken the difficult decision to cease Old Rectory Handsworth activities with immediate effect and have placed the charity and associated limited company into the hands of a qualified insolvency practitioner,” said the trustees….

“Although the charity and associated limited company have now ceased trading, we want to inform you that the Old Rectory buildings and land remains the property of St Mary’s Church Handsworth.

“We have been in communication with the church and they believe it can remain a resource to the community and they hope that the majority of the social and community groups will continue to use the centre again once the Government restrictions are lifted.”
