Peter and Mary Croft, who run handmade children’s clothing company Bear & Babe, have enlisted the help of 10 volunteers as well as their four seamstresses to address the shortage in the health and social care sector.

As they have the ability to cut large amounts of fabric they can make more scrubs faster than individual sewers, with volunteers also using individual sewing machines to help speed up production.

“We wanted to do something for Sheffield,” said Mary.

“We are dealing with a large amount of fabric so we can cut more.”

To help meet the costs of the materials, a £1000 fundraising target was set, which was hit in just 24 hours.

The current total stands at more than £3200, with £5000 the new target.

And so far, the Sharrow Vale-based business has distributed no fewer than 50 scrubs to Sheffield Children’s Hospital, who they have regularly donated to since setting up in 2016.

Mary said: “We will keep going until the need isn’t there anymore. Any extra, we are just going to donate it to the Children’s Hospital.”

The business is currently waiting on a new delivery of fabric, which Mary said should arrive this week. It will then be distributed to their volunteers, who are working from home.

“They are brilliant,” Mary said.

She added: “The donations been massive, it’s been up and down the country as well. Our customers are just really, really supportive.”
