Brenda Titterton from Chesterfield looks back fondly on market days gone by...

Very interesting to see the pictures of Castle Market in the Star Friday June 5th.

I had a Saturday job in Castle Market at Punch Stores in the late 50s early 60s.

I got £1 for Saturday and would go to C&A and get an outfit for the City Hall dance.

I used to work my school holidays as well. I knew George Bingham. He was a lovely man and his fruit was excellent. #

Castle Market was always busy and the place to go for all your needs in those days.

Sadly the Moor Market is no comparison. Dull, boring and too much of the same stuff.

In my market days there was Ray who had the card stall, Jackson’s fruit stall, Whitbreads snack bar, Bingham and Holland just to name a few.

Those were the days when Sheffield was a place to shop. Not anymore.
