These photos, taken taken between 7pm and 8pm on Wednesday – day one of the new, stricter controls on daily life – show a deserted city centre with pubs, bars and restaurants looking a shadow of their former selves through no fault of their own.
Under the new rules they must close at 10pm and different households are banned from mixing together inside. Customers and staff must also wear face coverings.
