Confusion surrounds leak on major road after Yorkshire Water said it was "on site" - but contractors not seen

Concerns have been raised that the eventual repair will see lane closures on one of Sheffield’s busiest roads

Confusion surrounds a repair after Yorkshire Water said contractors were “on site” fixing a leak on Sheffield’s inner ring road - but have yet to appear.

Drinking water could be seen bubbling up and washing across St Mary’s Road today, just as it has been for a reported three months.

On Monday, Yorkshire Water told The Star: “Our contract partners M Group are currently on site to carry out a repair to a burst main on the east bound side of the carriageway at 55 St Mary’s Road, Sheffield.”

“We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and we’re working as quickly as we can to complete the repair. We’d ask that drivers are cautious and follow any traffic management instructions close to the site.”

Concerns have been raised that the eventual repair will see lane closures on one of Sheffield’s busiest roads.

In April, commuters faced disruption due to a leak on St Mary's Road near the junction with Shoreham Street, and on Shoreham Street itself.

Yorkshire Water was contacted for comment.
