Competition success for coffee maker

Have your say

A BARISTA from Sheffield hoping to craft the perfect cuppa has a chance to compete in a global coffee-making competition.

Tom Harwood, 21, of Broomhill, has already reached the UK Regional Finals of the Costa Barista of the year competition.

Tom, who learned his trade at the Sheffield Waterstones branch of Costa, said: “I’m so pleased to have got this far and I’m looking forward to competing again.

“I love working at Costa and I hope I can win because I have the skills, the experience and the enthusiasm for making coffee.”

Having already won the South Yorkshire heats, Tom is now hoping to wow judges in a regional competition with his speciality coffee drink - a mix of cocunut, banana and ginger.

And if Tom wins the regional finals in Leeds, due to take place next Wednesday, September 7, he will head to Costa’s Roastery in London for the global Champion of Champions Finals in October.

The overall champion barista will win a luxury 10-day trip for two, to a country of their choice - as long as it has a coffee connection.
