Future plans for closed Clubhouse bowling alley at Meadowhall revealed

“They are a fantastic operator and I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with the space.”

A late night bar and bowling alley that closed at Meadowhall has been snapped up by a rival leisure company.

Clubhouse on The Avenue, which closed earlier this month, has been acquired by Lane7.

Clubhouse boss Jack Pendlebury revealed the news and said Lane7 - which has a venue on Matilda Street in the city centre - would be opening “in days.”

He wrote: “Today, the keys have officially been handed over to Lane7, who will be taking over the Clubhouse space and opening their new Meadowhall venue in the coming days.

“I genuinely wish the whole Lane7 team every success with it.

“They are a fantastic operator and I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with the space.”

Clubhouse, which opened in the former Ronnie O’Sullivan snooker shop in 2022, was a radical change to the mall.

It was the first licensed, late-night leisure venue on The Avenue, offering bowling, mini-golf, a bar and grill.

Mr Pendlebury added: “Back in 2022, Clubhouse was little more than drawings, ideas and a very ambitious building site in the middle of Meadowhall.

“We wanted to create something different. A premium competitive socialising venue bringing together bowling, mini golf, games, food, drinks and hospitality, and ultimately helping introduce a new type of leisure experience into one of the UK’s biggest shopping centres.

“What followed has been one hell of a journey.”

Parent company AK Leisure was put into liquidation in February, Companies House records show.

A ‘statement of affairs’ says it owed creditors £3.3m including £1m to British Land Company and £1.1m to HMRC.

Clubhouse closed earlier this month.

At the time, the firm thanked customers for “four brilliant years,” adding: “The good news is the space won’t be quiet for long.

“Clubhouse has been acquired and you may have already heard about a pretty exciting new venue heading into our space very soon.”

Lane7 was contacted for information.
