City instrument firm in US buyout deal

A SHEFFIELD health firm which provides medical products to the NHS has been bought out by an American multinational giant.

UK Medical Limited, which distributes specialised, single-use medical products to hospitals across the country, has been taken over by US firm CareFusion.

The firm, which is based on Lydgate Lane, Crosspool, employs 40 people.

Jim Mackenzie, chairman of UK Medical, said: “For more than 30 years, we have served the NHS and private medical sector with high-quality, high-technology medical products to help improve patient care pathways.

“We look forward to continuing our track record of growth and innovation with CareFusion.”

UK Medical specialises in equipment for biopsy, cardiac, drainage, obstetrics and gynaecology, non-vascular stenting, surgery and vertebroplasty.

Gordon LaFortune of CareFusion, said: “The acquisition further strengthens CareFusion’s presence in the United Kingdom.”

The size of the deal has not been disclosed.
