City hailed as enterprise capital

Top UK entrepreneur Doug Richard has hailed Sheffield as ‘Britain’s enterprise capital.’

The former Dragon’s Den judge was speaking prior to a free event in the city that aims to show entrepreneurs how to tap into alternative sources of funding.

“Having been to MADE: The Entrepreneur Festival three years in a row, I know what an exciting and important place to do business Sheffield has become,” said Mr Richard.

“It’s a truly entrepreneurial city, full of innovators who have the ambition and drive to power Britain’s economic resurgence.”

Mr Richard was set to launch his nationwide Windows of Opportunity roadshow at Sheffield City Hall at 12:30pm today.

The show looks at new ways to raise money without banks, which he says never have been, and never will be, the right source of funding for young businesses

It examines the type of money new and growing businesses need and investment opportunities for new and established investors, including the government’s new Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme.

“Under the government’s Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS), you can get up to 78 per cent in tax relief on investments in young startup businesses. It’s a radical move in favour of entrepreneurs and the start-up businesses, and I think the people of Sheffield are ideally placed to benefit, both business owners and potential investors,” said Mr Richard.
