It has dedicated its 210 staff, 36 beds and state-of-the-art equipment to the NHS ahead of an expected surge in coronavirus cases. Bosses say the donation means it is not relying on much-needed NHS resources.

Panther Tools and Products responded to an appeal for equipment. The company, which supplies tools to the European automative industry, provided a batch of glasses and goggles within an hour of the request.

The hospital is preparing for the expected peak of Covid-19 and is expected to receive its first NHS patients this week.

Andrew Thornton, hospital director, said: “We’re very grateful to Panther Tools and Products for this generous contribution. It’s a fantastic gesture to donate this important equipment to our teams, and yet another example of people coming together from all walks of life to support healthcare staff.”
