PLANS on The Moor for a cinema, shops and restaurants are to press ahead following approval from councillors in Sheffield.
Sheffield Council’s South and East Area planning committee members gave the green light at a meeting yesterday to the proposals to rebuild the block below Debenhams.
A unanimous nod of approval was given to the application, expected to cost tens of millions of pounds.
The meeting also heard that plans for two taxi ranks, at the top and foot of The Moor, will be put in place to alleviate access problems for members of the public.
Sheffield resident Nigel Slack spoke out in objection to the application, complaining its design would ‘add nothing’.
But planning officers assured the committee they are taking steps to ensure the build will be high quality.
Coun David Baker said: “The area is run down and these changes will make a huge difference. It is the best news I have heard for a long time.”
