The first ‘Made in Chesterfield’ week is being staged in the town to celebrate a thriving sector - and encourage youngsters to consider manufacturing as a career.
So far 10 Chesterfield companies have signed up to run activities in schools, factory tours for teachers and students and competitions.
Magnifica Technologies and Kingfield Electronics are running a competition for schools on Twitter.
David Grey MBE, group managing director of the OSL Group, has been confirmed as a key speaker at a manufacturing breakfast seminar.
Made in Chesterfield week runs from November 10-14. It is being organised by Destination Chesterfield, the town’s marketing arm.
Chairman Peter Swallow said: “Chesterfield has a thriving manufacturing sector which has survived for generations and is an important part of the town’s future.
“Companies in the sector are telling us they have jobs and apprenticeships waiting to be filled. This is an excellent opportunity for every school to make young people aware of careers and for companies to secure future talent.”
