The Coalfields Regeneration Trust is launching a new employment service in the Dearne Valley as a result of a £30,000 donation from the Ladbrokes Community Fund.
The Family Employment Initiative, which has helped more than 2,000 residents into employment since it began operating in 2006, is to spend the bookmakers’ cash expanding the service into the Dearne Valley.
It works with individuals and families by offering a free, ‘one to one’ service to help people to find training and employment.
Lynda Chapman, FEI Programme Manager, said: “We pride ourselves in putting the customer first.
“We have experienced staff who understand the issues and barriers that people often face finding the right job.
“Our approach is centred on the person, but also takes into account the family situation and the effect on the household if someone cannot find a job.”
The service can also help a person once they move into employment and provide support to employers.
Peter McNestry, chairman of the trust, which is aimed at regeneration former mining communities, said: “We are grateful for the donation and know the move into the Dearne Valley will help us reach more people in these particularly hard times.”
“We will work closely with Ladbrokes and show them the impact their funding will have.”
