Family-run cupcake manufacturer and retailer, Bedazzled Cupcakes, has expanded its Rotherham-based operations.

The company, run by Darren Powell, his partner Jayne Gordon and his daughter Laura, has moved to the Alexandra Centre in Parkgate in a bid to keep up with increasing demand for American cupcakes.

The family connection doesn’t end with Darren, Jayne and Laura.

Darren’s son, Jonny, works for the firm as a van driver and another daughter, Charlotte, helps out in the summer, as does Jayne’s daughter, Lucy.

Bedazzled Cupcakes was founded in 2008 to meet demand for American cupcakes following release of the Sex in the City films.

“Our business has gone from strength to strength over the past 12 months,” said Darren, who acquired the new base with help from commercial property consultant Burgess Commercial..

“We have retail outlets in Doncaster, Wakefield and Huddersfield and using our home kitchen for baking meant we just didn’t have enough space.”

Burgess Commercial director Neil Keally said: “It is always great to hear about a business that is growing and Bedazzled Cupcakes will find this is a great location for supporting their ongoing expansion.”
