FOOD shoppers in Sheffield are baffled by butchers, a survey has revealed.

Research commissioned by PGI Welsh Lamb showed that just 33 per cent of the city’s meat-eaters know exactly what type to buy, with 20 per cent saying they wish they knew more about different cuts.

A further 7 per cent admitted to finding a trip to their butcher daunting.

The survey comes in the wake of the horsemeat scandal which has prompted Sheffield residents to shun ready meals and supermarket food in favour of local traders.

Now Rob Rattray, PGI Welsh Lamb ambassador, wants to convince people that butchers are there to help.

He said: “Your local butcher will be keen to share his knowledge with you.

“He’ll be able to advise you on specifics.”
