A Barnsley businessman is donating over £5,000 of lights to bring Christmas joy to the village of Barugh Green for the first time in its history.

Eddie Riby, who owns Direct Global Trading, has teamed up with councillors Alice Cave, Linda Burgess and Sharon Howard to provide the village with its own Christmas lights and, after months of planning, a date for the big switch-on has now been arranged.

Father Christmas himself will be guest of honour on Thursday, November 20, at 4pm at Barugh Green Primary school, lighting up a 16ft Christmas tree as well as 17 street lampposts.

Eddie, who has lived in the area all his life and attended the school as a boy, said: “I’m thrilled to be able to be in a position where I can give back to my community.”
