Council and business leaders have welcomed a Government announcement that Derbyshire will play a leading role in shaping policies which affect rural communities.

Fourteen groups across the country have been appointed to help shape countryside policy as part of the Government’s new Rural and Farming Networks.

Among them is the Derbyshire Economic Partnership Rural Forum, which includes representatives from Derbyshire County Council and district councils, businesses, and organisations including the National Union of Farmers, Natural England, and the Country Landowners Association.

Coun Kevin Parkinson, county council cabinet member for regeneration, said: “This is tremendous, because it provides a direct voice to influence Government policy.”
