A PROGRAMME to attract business events to Sheffield has brought £3 million to the local economy in the three years since its launch, according to officials.
The statistics were revealed by Sheffield Convention Bureau, a council department which took over some of the functions of the old Yorkshire South Tourism agency.
Gemma Bradshaw, manager of the Conference Ambassador Programme, said officials recruited 200 city organisations such as businesses and the universities to act as ambassadors and attract more events.
She said: “More and more national and international associations are choosing to host their annual events in Sheffield. Our strategy intends to grow the two million business delegates who gather in the city each year. Conferences are not only great opportunities to showcase the city but delegates return as leisure visitors.”
Sheffield Convention Bureau recently secured Bronze for best UK Convention Bureau at the Meetings and Incentive Travel Industry Awards.
