YOUNG apprenticeships introduced by builder Vinci Construction UK have won an award from Barnsley Council for the third year in a row.

Apprentice Grant Denton received a Highest Achievement Award at a presentation event for completing 50 days of work placements over two years on Vinci sites while completing a BTEC construction diploma and his GCSEs.

The scheme provides pupils with ‘invaluable experience to support and develop their education and career path’, Vinci said.

Vinci recently offered a job to Danny Symeou, who completed the programme in 2011, and he is now a trainee construction manager. Young Apprenticeships for Barnsley manager Martin Adamson said: “The programme gave pupils the rare opportunity to learn invaluable skills.”
