MAINTENANCE workers from Sheffield Council’s contractor, Kier, have been sharpening their skills.

Staff from the firm’s Manor Lane depot have joined with colleagues from the company in Lincolnshire to ‘upskill’ in basic plastering, joinery and plumbing so residents can have repairs fixed as quickly as possible.

Team members from Sheffield and Boston have been taking part in a bespoke training scheme, established by GTG Training, to learn the new skills.

Other upskilling programmes are also being developed in plumbing, through Kier Sheffield’s own Technical Training Centre, and joinery, at Sheffield Council’s Sheaf Training operation.
