Technology consultant Ben Hawley is celebrating securing a contract with a leading supplier of seasonal decorations to top retail centres, with the help of Barnsley Digital Media Centre.
Mr Hawley is based at the centre and gets regular mentoring from innovation specialist Amanda Lennon, as part of his tenancy agreement with Oxford Innovation, which manages the council-owned building.
Ms Lennon, who is Oxford Innovation’s regional director, introduced Ben to KD Decoratives, whose Huddersfield-based factory houses one of Europe’s largest collection of animatronics and Christmas decorations and supplies clients such as Meadowhall and the Trafford Centre.
“Amanda referred me to KD Decoratives and we’ve been working on ways the company can differentiate itself from its competitors,” said Ben.
“We’ve been working on R&D around how to use the latest technology to personalise experiences for users.”
Ben is keeping tight-lipped about the technological developments, but believes they could boost export opportunities outside Europe for KD, which is part of French group Blachere Illuminations.
Ben Hawley is full of praise for the support he has received from Barnsley Digital Media Centre.
“The business support has been first class, but to receive introductions to brand leaders and to be able to support them in the roll out and development of new products is wonderful,” he said.
