Beauty File: Long Wear is one Gel of a Liner

Have your say

A bit of stretch gives control to your undies and comfort to those skinny jeans. But now, there’s a stretchy mascara too.

Bobbi Brown’s make-up artists were backstage at New York Fashion week, creating looks for the catwalks of designers Rachel Roy, J Mendel and Tibi.

At Tibi, Bobbi’s Long Wear Gel Liner, £15.50 at House of Fraser, proved an essential item. It helped create the mood, lining sooty, moonlit eyes to contrast with soft-focuses faces illuminated with peachy blusher and petal-pink lips.

Gel liner is a unique, quick-drying formulation which won’t budge, smear or crease until you wash it off. The gel base emollient is so gentle that it glides on eyes and if you work fast, you just get enough time to blend it. Apply gingerly for a subtle, natural look or use a heavier hand and layer liner to eye popping perfection.

Stretching out lashes

A bit of stretch gives control to your undies and comfort to those skinny jeans. But now, there’s a stretchy mascara too.

Luxury brand Silsey reckon it’s the way to get longer, curlier, fatter lashes. Their new Phyto-Mascara Ultra Stretch contains wheat proteins and carnauba waxes. The formula is creamy and soft, and stays supple and flexible – and in place, rather than crumbling and flaking away as the day wears on. A specially designed curved and tapered brush made with two different types of fibres aims to give the perfect, sweeping coat from root to tip. In black, brown and a deep blue, £37 at John Lewis.

Eyes down for summer colour

French toiletry brand L’Occitane, who have a store in Meadowhall, are renowned for the aromatic sensory scents used in their all-natural products. But they do make-up, too. And just in time for summer, new colours and products have been added to the Pivoine Flora cosmetics collection.

Designed to highlight the face with luminous shades, key products for the season include a Healthy Glow Face powder which warms the complexion and brightens up skin tones.

Ultra-smart beauty buys include a Duo Eyeshadow kit which actually creates a third shade when you blend the two colours on the back of your hand.

There is also Incredible Lip Shine gloss which, when it touches your lips, creates a shade of pink unique to you.

Polish makes the nudes

It’s THE nail polish of the season, according to Tracy Van Heusden, Senior Beauty Buyer at House of Fraser. “Deborah Lippmann Nail Polish in Naked (£14) is the best ‘nude’ polish I have ever come across. It leaves nails looking glossy and healthy - and not too pink or too beige. It’s the perfect everyday work polish,” she says.
