CAMPAIGN group Cycle Sheffield has set up an online petition calling for cycles to be allowed on tram-trains which are to operate between Sheffield and Rotherham.

Mick Nott, chairman of the group, is sending the petition to the Government objecting to proposals not to allow bikes on board.

Bicycles are allowed on conventional trains, but South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive has said that tram-trains will be subject to the same rules as Supertram, from which bicycles are banned.

CycleSheffield is calling for support from enthusiasts around the country, arguing that as a national trial of tram-trains, people across the UK should take an interest.
