A cutting-edge project between Barnsley Council and Manchester Metropolitan University has identified the top seven priorities for immediate action to help the town’s high street.

The research is part of £250,000 scheme called High Street UK 2020, which aims to reverse the decline of the high street in 10 towns across the country.

Action points for Barnsley’s high street include attracting new retailers and development, making a better customer experience, tackling anti-social behaviour, and building a sense of pride and more positive perceptions of the town.

The key priorities were identified during a workshop hosted by Barnsley’s Town Centre Services with experts from the university, traders, council officers and high street stakeholders.
