As of June 2022, there was 392 pubs in Sheffield, down from 405 as of March 2020.
This means over a dozen pubs in the steel city have closed during the Covid-19 pandemic, and with the effects the pandemic had on business around the globe, many restaurants, cafes and breweries also permanently closed their doors.
Across Yorkshire and the Humber, there have been 91 pub closures since the beginning of the pandemic, 18 this year. With the soaring energy prices and tax rises, more pubs, restaurants and cafes could be forced to close.

5. The Cross Scythes.

6. Andrew's Cafe
Andrew's Cafe on Chapel Walk in Sheffield city centre unfortunately closed in May after going into liquidation. Traditionally popular with theatre-goers had run for over 10 years, the business was unable to pick up with pre-pandemic levels. Photo: Brian Eyre
7. Luke's Place
Luke's place closed earlier this year at short notice after owner, Luke, had to shut it down due to personal reasons. The devastated chef was a former sous chef for Michelin-starred TV cook Tom Kerridge and Luke's place was a hit with diners for the short period it was open. Photo: Google Maps
8. Eggo's Cafe
Eggo's Cafe on Hutcliffe Wood Road, Beauchief, unfortunately closed its door in December 2021 due to a number of reasons, including effects of the pandemic. The family run business opened in 2014 and was very popular among the local community and gained a 4.9 rating on its Facebook page. Photo: Alex Wilkinson
