A Sheffield software company has received a £70,000 grant to develop a product to make train companies more efficient.

3Squared received a grant from the Regional Growth Fund to develop RailSmart and create jobs.

The tablet application allows train companies to build a risk profile of train drivers and crew, makes training and development more effective and reduces risks to passengers.

Tim Jones, managing director of 3Squared, said: “This is fantastic news and shows that the Sheffield Local Enterprise Partnership recognises the importance of development within the digital industries.

“As a result of securing this funding, we will be able to create new jobs and have a dedicated resource to commit to expanding our software specifically for the rail sector.

“We are very excited about developing the software to bring real efficiencies and savings for rail sector businesses.

“For train operators, this technology has far reaching benefits. It enables them to ensure compliance by managing the competencies of employees.”
