An immigration law firm is opening an office in Sheffield promising to create 100 jobs.
Fragomen Worldwide, an immigration services specialist with 40 offices, has announced plans to establish a second UK office in the city.
The firm is taking room in Saville House, opposite the giant Tesco on Savile Street at Spital Hill, and is set to open in January.
Caron Pope, UK managing partner said they had plans to create 100 jobs over the next 18 months including 50 next year.
She added: “This new office enables the firm to meet the growing demand for our services and provides greater access to new markets in the UK. By selecting Sheffield, the firm benefits from close proximity to the UK Home Office, leading UK universities and businesses outside of London.
Our two offices in the UK will enable us to continue to grow and diversify services across the country.”
Fragomen advises clients on immigration in a variety of industries from sole traders and private clients to large multinational corporations and FTSE 100s.
Coun Leigh Bramall, deputy leader of Sheffield City Council, said it was fantastic news.
He added: “This is fantastic news for Sheffield and a great opportunity for people looking for their next career move. Over 100 new jobs will be created; offering roles for many people within the city and proving that yet again, a major global company has the confidence in the people of Sheffield and their skills and knowledge.”
Sheffield was able to provide a good range of suitable premises at competitive prices, he added.
Saville House stood empty for five years despite a multi-million pound makeover and possibly the cheapest rent in the North due to the recession. Last November housing association Places for People took part of the top floor.
Nik Hamilton, investment team manager at Creative Sheffield, added: “The development will boost the profile of Sheffield as a premier location for legal firms and illustrates the city’s cost effectiveness when compared with London and the South East.”
