They struck at a house in the Hooton Lane area of Ravenfield, Rotherham, at around 6.30pm yesterday and escaped with a ‘significant amount of jewellery’.

During the raid the crooks woke a woman in her 70s from her sleep and ordered her to remove the items of jewellery she was wearing.

Detectives want to hear from anyone in the area at the time who may have seen any vehicles parked up or which raised their suspicions close to Hooton Lane.

Detective Constable Paul McIntyre, from Rotherham CID, said: “This has been a really distressing incident for the victim and we are urgently carrying out enquiries to identify those responsible.

“I’d really like to hear from anyone who was in the Hooton Lane area between 6.30pm and 7.30pm and might have noticed any vehicles they don’t usually see in the area, either parked up or acting suspiciously.
