Brentford boss Thomas Frank praises 'professional fouls' after nasty tackle injures Sheffield Wednesday starlet Fisayo Dele-Bashiru

Bees right-back Henrik Dalsgaard received only a yellow card when he went in cynically on Owls starlet Fisayo Dele-Bashiru to prevent a Wednesday counter-attack.

The 20-year-old hobbled out of the contest shortly afterwards, leaving the Wednesday bench furious.

Impassioned fitness chief Tony Strudwick told the first official, “We had a man sent off for that last week,” in relation to Liam Shaw’s red card in their defeat to Birmingham.

Frank, who showed himself to be a dab hand at the dark arts himself when he repeatedly prevented Wednesday players from taking quick restarts, briefly squared up to Owls forward Elias Kachunga after he kicked the ball away from his grasp as he went to take a throw-in.

During the week he had spoken about the need for his side to make so-called ‘professional fouls’ more often having been on the receiving end in their run of three consecutive defeats.

“After one of our poorest performances we were so solid defensively, so I will enjoy my glass of red wine tonight,” Frank said.

“We learned from recent games and we were clever enough to make those professional fouls. We did those twice today. Every team does them against us, so it is part of the game.”

The tackle lead to an imbalance on the field in the build-up to Brentford’s second goal as Dele-Bashiru was being treated on the touchline.

Asked whether Dalsgaard should have seen red for the challenge, Wednesday caretaker boss Neil Thompson said: “I have not had a second look at it but it didn't look great did it? I don't really want to comment on that until I have seen it properly.

“Fisayo was off the pitch getting assessed and we still have to adjust and shut up shop down that side and we didn't.

“I don't think he is too bad. He is a bit sore but we will assess that when we get back up to Sheffield. It's an ankle injury.”
