The show must go on - and that’s exactly what Susan Housley is intending, as she dons her vintage dress this month, to mark VE Day on May 8.

The Sheffield singer, who goes by the stage name Susan St Nicholas, is well known in the city’s care homes, after spending 25 years performing a nostalgic repertoire for Sheffield’s elderly residents.

And while coronavirus has seen all of Sue’s VE bookings cancelled, she’s determined that the day will not go unrecognised, hosting a Facebook Live concert for her loyal fans.

“Unfortunately, things have changed and – although I know there will be many who cannot tune in on the day – with the assistance of friends and family, I’m hoping that there are many who will,” said Sue.

Sue is also the face of a series of festive Superjam tea parties and friendships luncheons that are held regularly at venues across the city. Many of the parties are aimed at older people who are lonely or socially isolated.

The live VE Day show will air on Susan Day’s Facebook page at 2.30pm on Friday May 8, and afterwards, will be available through Sue’s YouTube channel.

Sue added: “Let's hope as many care homes can link in for their residents too, to perhaps enjoy it on their lounge television sets.

“There will be flags, bunting and a staged set - all from the comfort of my own living room.”
