South Yorkshire theatre group in hunt for chihuahua to take centre stage in musical

A little pooch is needed to take centre stage in the Lamproom Musical Theatre Company's production of Legally Blonde – to play Bruiser.

Bruiser is the beloved pet of main character Elle Woods, and he joins her on her journey to Harward Law School where she ends up solving a murder.

The dog features heavily throughout the iconic film, and the Barnsley-based theatre group are keen for him also feature in their musical production.Despite numerous auditions among the dogs belonging to the cast, however, they haven’t quite found the right four-legged actor for the part.

The theatre group are huge pet lovers, with many dogs between them, ranging from labradors to cavaliers, but none of their adorable canines are quite the right look needed for this iconic part.

Now, the group are asking owners of well-behaved chihuahuas to get in touch if they think their pet could take to the stage as Bruiser. The chosen chihuahua will need to be comfortable with crowds and happy to be handled by their actors.

The dog and its owner would need to be available for all six performances, which will take place in May, and a number of pre-show rehearsals. Free tickets to the show would be offered as thanks.

Legally Blonde the Musical will be coming to the Lamproom Theatre, Westgate, Barnsley, from May 5 to 9.
