The show takes place at Grenoside Community Centre Main Street on dates from January 24 to February 1.

Sue Hewerdine of the group said: “The original story, written by Robert Louis Stevenson in 1883, introduced many of the popular notions we have about pirates –buried treasure and secret maps, the Black Spot, and one-legged pirates with a parrot on one shoulder.

“Our version shamelessly steals all these ideas, whilst adding a few that Mr Stevenson forgot. Hattie Hawkins, for example, the man-mad and slightly bewildered Dame; Captain Bob, who doesn't know one end of a ship from the other; and old Granny Hawkins, who dreams of meeting her pirate sweethearts again

“Add to this a hiss-able baddie with one leg, a very unconvincing parrot, and as many animals as we can find costumes for, and the stage is set for two hours of comedy, chaos, audience participation, songs and dancing. And did I mention the custard pies? Or the dancing horse? And does it all end happily? Of course it does!”

A licensed bar will be selling beers from Bradfield Brewery and Our Cow Molly Ice Cream will be available.
