Spandau Ballet set to bring musical ‘gold’ to Doncaster Racecourse

The New Romantic favourites will be performing live following a packed seven race card at the Town Moor venue, South Yorkshire’s premier racecourse.

The London formed five-piece comprising Tony Hadley, Gary Kemp, Martin Kemp, Steve Norman and John Keeble have sold over 25 million records and amassed 23 hit singles across the globe since they formed in the late 1970s. Known as one of Britain’s great iconic bands, they took the world by storm on their comeback tour in 2009 after two decades apart.

Commenting on the news that Spandau Ballet are set to perform at Doncaster Racecourse as part of the Music Live series of events, Kieron Gallagher, executive director at the venue, said: “Spandau Ballet will be one of the highlights of a great summer of racing and music here at Doncaster Racecourse. The action packed evening of racing followed by first class musical entertainment will make for a great late summer’s event to be enjoyed with friends, family and colleagues alike.”

The band will take to the stage to perform classic hits from their back catalogue, including UK number one single True and the iconic song Gold, amongst others from their eight UK top ten albums, which include numerous multi-platinum sellers.

Mr Gallagher continued: “To have such a huge name from the British music industry playing at Town Moor is a real honour and is very exciting. We are more than just a sporting venue and are delighted to add Spandau Ballet to our list of big name music acts to have graced the stage here.”

As part of the Music Live series Doncaster Racecourse is also set to play host to Madness on Saturday June 27 with another big name act soon to be announced for Saturday May 16.

The venue will also welcome UB40 who will perform after racing on Ladbrokes Derby Day on Saturday June 6 and it has recently announced its first DJ Live event featuring Jo Whiley and Vernon Kay on Saturday August 1.

Tickets for their summer evening of racing and the Spandau Ballet live performance are now on sale priced from £35 per person.
