Jigsaw fans shape up to be crowned online genius

Barnsley Museums is to celebrate their 100th online jigsaw and almost 150,000 game plays with a week-long competition.

The winner, who can complete it in the fastest time, will be crowned Barnsley Museums Jigsaw Genius.

HERE”S HOW TO TAKE PART: It will be hosted via their Barnsley Museums’ social media channels – including Twitter @BarnsleyMuseums and Facebook at www.facebook.com/BarnsleyMuseums/ – from Saturday, June 27 until Friday, July 3.

Those playing will be asked to complete a tricky puzzle made up of a montage of much loved artwork from Barnsley Museums’ collection and once done upload their time.

The virtual jigsaws have been a huge hit during Covid-19 lockdown and Barnsley Museums have received wonderful feedback from the thousands who have taken part.

Not only have people discovered the outstanding collection of art, objects and archive documents found at the Museums, the daily puzzles have been an important part of their day keeping them connected and comforted at a time of crisis.

As well as the thousands of local people who have joined in with the fun, the jigsaws have spread across the world to Europe, America, Australia amongst other places.

Coun Tim Cheetham, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place (Regeneration and Culture) said: “The Barnsley Museums virtual jigsaws have been a phenomenal success.

“They have really connected with people around the world and offered them a daily moment of calm during challenging times.

“The impact they have had on people has been truly astonishing and we are pleased that have been so well received. The competition is the perfect way to celebrate the 100th game and we are sure there will be lots of people wanting to win the title.”

The online jigsaws are part of a full digital programme by Barnsley Museums.
