Hardwick Wintertide unveils a magical festive folklore tale

Step back in time this festive season as Hardwick, in Chesterfield, transforms into a 16th century magical winter experience until January 4.

  • Hardwick Wintertide celebrates Elizabethan festive customs with handmade decorations, reflective poems, and interactive installations created by local artists and volunteers.
  • Follow The Tale of Misrule and the Holly King, a playful story inspired by old English folklore, brought to life through enchanting displays across the 16th-century mansion and gardens.
  • Explore Hardwick by lantern light on every visit or tip-toe around the mansion after-hours during the late-night openings on Fridays and Saturdays until Christmas Day. Free-flow entry for a unique atmospheric experience.
  • Take the story home and purchase The Tale of Misrule and the Holly King booklet for a suggested donation of £3 to support future projects.
