And many have criticised the voting system, which they say left her and other performers from the first semi-final at an unfair disadvantage, and the way the results were announced.

The 26-year-old from Norfolk Park, who had been chosen by Anne-Marie in the first semi-final, lost out in the public vote to the coach’s other pick Craig Eddie following Saturday’s second semi-final.

All four artists from the first semi-final missed out on this weekend’s grand final, in fact, leading fans to question how fair the vote was.

The public vote did not open until the second semi-final aired on Saturday, meaning the successful acts from that evening were fresher in viewers’ minds.

Bizarrely, the results were then announced online rather than live on air, denying audiences the chance to soak up the tension and witness the contestants’ reactions.

Despite her disappointment, Leona’s fans have taken to social media to assure her she did herself and her city proud and has a bright future ahead of her.

Natalie Moore said: “Just a start for you my dear we all love an support you. One of a kind.”

Eileen Morgan wrote: “You did yourself proud and Sheffield has another STAR....in the future.”

Tracey Lucas said ‘she will be snapped up now. Incredible voice’, Jane Arrowsmith commented ‘better than all of them. Not watching it now’, David Leadbeater said ‘her time is coming’ and Keeley Heywood wrote simply ‘gutted’.

Nicola Quibell commented: “I think they should have all been able to sing in the final and then vote, seems stupid doing it the way they have but I'm sure big things are coming her way as she is an amazing talent.”

And Zoe Meredith said: “Get through semi-final then to be kicked off via the app, how rubbish is that. She didn’t even get to sing...that’s ITV for ya.”

Leona, who regularly busked on The Moor before the pandemic, described her time on the show as a ‘madness and an absolute pleasure’ and called Craig, who beat her in the public vote, ‘a mad talented artist who is also a genuine soul’.

She added: “Excited for what’s coming next!”
