A huge Joker-themed event is coming to Sheffield - and here’s how you can buy tickets

It is nominated for more Oscars than any other film at next week’s Academy Awards ceremony – and moviegoers will be able to see why Joker is so highly regarded at a special screening with a live orchestra.

Directed by Todd Phillips, the dark, uncompromising picture stars Joaquin Phoenix and offers a possible ‘origin story’ for the titular Batman villain, depicted as an unsuccessful stand-up comedian called Arthur Fleck who brings a wave of crime and disorder to Gotham City.

On June 24, the movie will be shown on a big screen at Sheffield City Hall, with a full orchestra playing the score by Hildur Guðnadóttir. The music, which blends industrial soundscapes with melodies led by a lone cello, has already won Golden Globe, BAFTA and Critics’ Choice prizes for best original score.

The show – billed as Joker: Live In Concert – is part of an international tour that Hildur said she was ‘thrilled’ about.

“When we recorded the music, the orchestra brought such depth and detailed attention to the performances that we were all literally holding our breaths during most of the recording sessions," she said.

“It was a beautiful trip. I’m so happy to get to go there again and for an audience to experience that too.”

The event starts at 7.30pm. Children aged under 15 will not be admitted.

Tickets, priced from £38.50 to £75.65, go on sale at 10am on Friday, February 7. See www.sheffieldcityhall.co.uk/event/joker for more information or to book.
