That has been pushed back due to the Covid pandemic, with no new date announced.
To make up for the wait, exciting new stills from the movie – adapted from the hit stage musical which debuted at Sheffield’s Crucible theatre in 2017 before taking the West End by storm – have been released.
The film stars Max Harwood as Jamie New, with Richard E. Grant, Sharon Horgan, Lauren Patel, Shobna Gulati, Sarah Lancashire and Ralph Ineson also among the cast.
It was shot in Sheffield, with The Moor and Parson Cross estate among the locations to be featured.
The movie has been produced by Warp Films, Film4 and New Regency, and will be distributed by 20th Century Studios. The original Crucible team – playwright Tom MacRae, songwriter Dan Gillespie Sells of The Feeling and Park Hill-born director Jonathan Butterell – are all on board.
The musical was inspired by a real-life 2011 BBC Three TV documentary, Jamie: Drag Queen At 16.
