Images old and new in online Sheffield photographic exhibition

Focussing on Sheffield’s talent is a new exhibition which is going on display in the city.

The annual Sheffield Photographic Society's Pperspectives Exhibition is usually held in the Sheffield Winter Garden.

However, this year, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, organisers have moved the whole event online.

Exhibition coordinator John Scholey said: “We sincerely hope that by next year we can revert to our usual practice and that Perspectives 17 will be held once again in the Sheffield Winter Garden.”

He explained: “The exhibition is by 28 of our members showcasing their individual talent.

"There is also the usual panel of Old Sheffield images from the archive of our elder statesmen Ray Brightman.

"There is a wide range of subject matter for the exhibition and it is well worth taking a few minutes to take a look. Those of you who have seen one of our exhibitions in the past will know the quality and breadth of the photography.

"My own offering this year is six images of birds that were all taken during the early period of lockdown between April and July this year.”

Founded in 1864, Sheffiedl Photographic Society is one of the oldest in the world, but prides itself on keeping up to date.

Its programme covers a wide variety of photography and the group welcomes the absolute beginner to the more experienced photographer, the young and the not so young.

A spokesman said: “You don't need the latest electronic gadgetry to join, in fact you.don't even have to own a camera. An interest in photography is all we ask.”

To get involved the annual subscription is £64.75, £37 post Christmas.

T here is also a family membership which includes a spouse and children under 18 for) £100. Students and those on income support are £40, visitors £4.

During the COVID19 pandemic and restrictions, meetings are taking place online. Anyone wishing to join an online meeting can find the contact details on the ‘Programme’ page, see the link below.

There is no limit to the number of online meetings a visitor can attend.
